The Glendale-based auto transport broker books open car shipping, enclosed auto transport and door-to-door delivery where a truck can reach. The company says it ships across all 50 states, and its terms also cover international moves.
Sonic's terms keep coming back to $200. That's the fee if you cancel during the 5 business days Sonic gets to assign a carrier. It's the top dry run charge if your car isn't ready on time. And it's the flat surcharge on every inoperable vehicle. An undisclosed lift kit, oversized tires or a roof rack can cost up to $1,000 if the carrier walks or has to be replaced.
Pickup timing follows the plan you choose. Economy lists a 10-day pickup window and delivery within 20 days. Standard cuts that to 5 and 10 days, and Premium aims for same-day or next-day pickup. The terms call every date an estimate. Sonic's FAQ suggests booking 3 to 5 days ahead and puts transit at about 400 miles a day.
The FAQ says nothing is charged upfront. The terms go further. Your deposit becomes final and non-refundable once carrier details reach you by phone, email or text, and it hits your card at pickup. Miss Sonic's calls for 24 hours before pickup and the order can be canceled with the deposit kept. The balance goes to the driver in cash, certified funds or Zelle. Drivers won't take cards or personal checks.
Sonic never takes possession of your car. Carriers are expected to carry at least $100,000 in cargo insurance, and damage claims go to the carrier's insurer, in writing, within 24 hours of delivery. Classic, exotic and custom cars may need your own binder policy.
