It also arranges door-to-door delivery and motorcycle shipping. The company says it covers all 50 states, and its terms treat Alaska and Hawaii as overseas moves with their own prep rules.
Leader's own terms admit the cheapest quote often won't stick. They call it the Economy Saver Rate and put the odds of a carrier taking it at 5% to 30%, depending on the season and the market. It aims for pickup within 7 work days of your first available date. If no driver bites, Leader raises the offer in steps, and you can accept or turn down each higher price. The First Class Rate flips that. The price is locked, pickup is set for an agreed day or the next one, and Leader pays any extra the carrier wants.
Nothing is due when you book. Your card is charged the service fee once a carrier accepts the order, and the balance goes to the driver at delivery in cash or certified funds. Drivers won't take personal checks or cards. Canceling before a carrier accepts costs nothing. After that, you owe at least $199, plus any dry run fee the carrier charges. If an assigned carrier drops out, Leader gets 3 tries at a replacement before you can cancel for a full refund.
You can leave one bag of up to 100 pounds in the trunk. Alaska and Hawaii cars must ship empty with no more than half a tank, and you handle the booking number and weight ticket yourself.
Leader books licensed carriers and doesn't run its own trucks. Coverage comes from the carrier, and the terms say carriers hold $100,000 to $250,000 in cargo insurance while Leader carries no policy on your shipment.
